Slovenian beekeeping excels good practices and high standards of honey making. Slovenia has three quality schemes protected at the EU level: Slovenian honey with protected geographical indication, Kocevje forest honey with protected designation of origin and Karst honey with protected designation of origin. Consumers who look for quality and value it more than the price will recognise these Union schemes and demand them. All the goals are established to achieve the main goal of the Union measures, which is to
increase competitiveness. By highlighting the key messages of the EU quality schemes, we will achieve an increase in consumer awareness as well as in beekeepers’ awareness of the schemes. This will lead to an increase in the number of those included in schemes and consequentially a larger market income. Since we have been gaining funds for the promotion of quality schemes from the measures introduced in 2017, we have only strengthened the prospect of promoting agricultural products. As this is a long-term process, it is essential that we continue with these efforts in the future as well.
