To ensure these high standards and promote the traditions and unique characteristics of many European products, the EU has introduced quality schemes – Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) – as well as the EU organic logo. Only products fulfilling specific criteria receive these distinctions.
