"Project Sund Skole The present proposal is put forward by The Danish Dairy Board and the application has been prepared in relation to the EC white paper (COM(2007) 279 final) on nutrition. Programme: A Strategy for Europe on health issues related to nutrition, overweight and obesity. The application is aimed at only one market: Denmark. The Danish Dairy Board and the School Milk Scheme has long seen a drop in the number of students who drink school milk and a decreasing number of schools offering school milk. School milk programmes suffer from a lack of legitimacy in the schools and parents are unsure about their children's needs to drink school milk. Analysis shows that school milk is being replaced by unhealthy alternatives, and many children who do not drink school milk also drop the lunch pack. The Danish Dairy Board, supported by the EU, wants to strengthen the school milk's position in schools and address to decision-makers a clear message of milk's role in healthy nutrition. The objective is to create a health activity that attracts attention of the school management and parents to school milk, with a view to enhancing the sales (penetration and resale) of school milk in the classroom. Thus, the scheme also aims to increase the take-up on school milk while having a clear purpose in terms of providing information and addressing attitudes. Specifically, the aim is to reinforce the relationship between the School Milk Scheme and school management in order thus to strengthen this target group’s commitment to creating the framework for a healthy school. The Danish Dairy Board would like to offer school management/school boards a practical and elementary management and information tool, which would enable them to focus on the quality and content of meal breaks, school milk and the pupils’ health and nutrition.
