The “European bee lovers” project, proposed by the Beelife European beekeeping coordination, pursues the aim to enhance the role of bees and pollinators as bio-indicators of the state of health of the environment and to promote beekeeping as an essential activity for the preservation of the ecosystem.
The project faces three main objectives: to highlight the opportunities for sustainability in EU agriculture, stressing the beneficial role of beekeeping and pollinators for climate and biodiversity and to increase sales trend and better valorisation of the honey sector. Belgium is the chosen target country, due to its agriculture and social characteristics and its unique position from a European perspective, as it hosts the symbolic capital of the European Union. From Belgium many cultural movements and innovative ideas can spread throughout the union and some instances can find a wide sounding board.
The project is coherent with the priorities of the annual work 2021 commission, the topic and with the climate and environmental ambition of the common agricultural policy (CAP), the Green Deal and the Farm to Fork and the biodiversity strategy.
The strategy diversifies the actions on specific targets: agricultural community (especially farmers and beekeepers, both in Belgium that the Beelife associates), Belgian adult consumers and media and decision makers (at European level). The project is characterized by a union dimension, both in the content of the main message, referable to all actions and activities, and in the impact, particularly significant in terms of people reached (consumers/citizens and agricultural community). The project adopts some basic institutional activities (website, social network, promotional material, press activities, pr, etc.) And strategic actions for each target as the European Bee lovers network or the Bee Day. The project lasts 3 years and the total amount of the campaign is €1 012 806.
