EU Honey: Tasty and Environmentally Friendly

Latvian Beekeepers Association as a proposing organisation suggests activities for honey promotion.
Promotion activities of proposed project are planned for two target countries: Latvia and Estonia.

The aim of the project is to promote honey consumption with special focus on benefits of EU honey: tasty and environmentally friendly product, with positive effects to biodiversity and environmental sustainability.

Objective is to increase consumption of honey in both target countries.


Impact indicator for this objective is annual honey consumption per capita by 2025 in Latvia 1.3 kg and in Estonia – 1.2 kg (baseline: in 2021 Estonia – 1.05 kg annual consumption of honey per capita and in Latvia – 1 kg per capita).

The project corresponds to the specific objectives of the AGRIP Programme (Information provision and promotion measures concerning European agricultural products) because it is aimed to increase awareness of the merits of EU agricultural product (i.e., honey) and increase consumption of EU honey, as well as to highlight the sustainability of EU agriculture, stressing its beneficial role for climate action and the environment.

Honey promotion measures are important because increased honey consumption provides a fair income for beekeepers, which in turn ensure financial resources for beekeepers to provide the necessary beekeeping activities, such maintenance of life of bee colonies, decrease of bee disease risks. Taking care of honeybees, beekeeper ensures not only collection of honey, but they care about preservation pollinators. Main honeybees’ role is plants pollination.

Proposing organisation has good presence in industry and networking in both target countries. It has experience in successful implementation of several EU funded projects, even AGRIP Simple program project in period of 2007-2009. For the organisation and core team of the project it brings good confidence and capacity in fulfilling aims and objectives of this project application.
