The French rabbit sector is dealing with a structural decline in rabbit meat consumption. Yet rabbit meat is an integral part of European culinary heritage and is fully in line with the objectives of a healthy and diversified diet. CLIPP, the French interprofessional Rabbit Committee, wishes to continue the actions initiated since 2019 on the French and German markets, in order to complete the transition of the sector. This one is particularly committed to more sustainable production.
The proposed 3-year programme aims to raise awareness of the merits of European rabbit production. Increasing consumer interest in rabbit meat is key to the future of rabbit production.
The programme aims to support sales through promotional actions at the points of sale and on the radio, but also to change the image of the product by highlighting its nutritional benefits, its practicality and new uses. In addition to actions aimed at the general public, professionals (catering, wholesalers, etc.) will also be targeted by this programme, which also aims to open new outlets for rabbit meat.
Different types of actions are planned:
- Media actions, aiming to work on the image of the product with consumers.
- Actions at the point of sale, aiming to improve the emergence of rabbit meat at the point of sale and therefore work on the presence in the mind, as this is one of the major problems encountered by rabbit meat today.
- Actions with prescribers to convince them of the interest of referencing rabbit meat of European origin.
The challenge of the programme is therefore to support the consumption of rabbit meat and to encourage the choice of meat of European origin in the face of competition from third countries. By supporting sales, it is also the economic balance of the rabbit industry in Europe that is at stake and therefore the possibility for it to better structure itself to be able to face the challenges of tomorrow, particularly in terms of sustainability.
