Objective: Oilseed (rapeseed and sunflower) from the EU presents superior environmental and economic value, offering many opportunities in third countries. The EU’s promotion programme has the ability to trigger significant developments within a limited budget. Oilseed products have several uses: seeds are grown by farmers, grains are later harvested and processed into two co-products, oil (direct consumption and uses in the food and chemistry industry) and meals (animal feed). Since 1976, Terres Univia has been promoting these products in France, and in more than 15 countries through the sector’s international promotion structure “Agropol”. With its technical expertise, promotion experience and well-established network, Terres Univia is an experienced organisation, optimally placed to carry out this programme successfully. Terres Univia intends to promote rapeseed seeds in two non-EU countries: Tunisia and Morocco. Sunflower seeds will also be promoted in Morocco, as it shows complementary development potential.
Target group: Tunisia and Morocco
Action strategy: These countries were selected for their favourable political context, positive consumption trends, potential gains in acreage and market share. The aim of this B2B campaign is to improve farmers’ and other professionals’ knowledge about oilseeds and oilseed seeds produced in the EU, tackling identified challenges. The programme promotes the quality of European rapeseed and sunflower seeds as against their global competitors (soy and palm oil producers) which are already dominating the targeted markets. The strategy is therefore to support the development of a national rapeseed and sunflower production using local producers as allies, which will be welcomed by local authorities and will encourage the development of national processing units for these crops.
Budget: € 1,905,658.00 for 3 years
