Agri-Food Business Mission by Commissioner Wojciechowski to Indonesia (Jakarta)

On 28-29 October 2024, 12 EU companies and organisations accompanied him to meet with stakeholders and potential buyers, to facilitate exchanges between European and Indonesian businesses active in the agri-food sector.

Nominated by EU umbrella organisations, they represented the dairy, processed products, meat, wines, fodder and vegetables sectors from 8 Member States.

The programme featured a half-day market access seminar on how to export EU agri-food products to Indonesia. The Business Mission is a diplomatic and business operation aimed in particular at delivering market intelligence to the business delegates, providing them in a few days with market information they would have spent months gathering themselves. 10 specialised visits were also organised in small customised groups to the retailers and importers.

150 Indonesian B2B professionals but also EU Member States Ambassadors, counsellors and media joined the delegation for a business forum with an introduction by the Commissioner and Acting Director General of Plantations from the Ministry of Agriculture Indonesia. It was followed by 2 roundtables to raise the visibility and profile of EU agri-food products by highlighting their key merits.

A cooking show with chef Vindex Valentino Tengker was offered to taste and know how to use the EU products. This was also the occasion for the Commissioner and the Director General of Intellectual Property from the Ministry of Law Indonesia to hand over the EU Geographical Indication (GI) recognition certificates to 3 newly registered Indonesian GI producers’ associations.

The business delegates had many networking opportunities, including a working breakfast and lunch with the Commissioner and his team working on improving market access in Indonesia. A very fruitful meeting took place with APINDO (Indonesian Employers Association) members, expressing a lot of interest to start partnerships to import more EU products.

On 30 October the Commissioner continued alone for a more political programme, with the Mission taking place a few days after the new government took office. He had meetings with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Law (for GIs).
