Promoting European Excellence: Enjoy, It’s from Europe
The European Commission co-finances and also directly organises campaigns and events to promote EU agricultural produces worldwide, under the slogan “Enjoy, it’s from Europe”. This aims to raise awareness of the efforts made by European farmers and producers to bring high-quality, authentic, safe, and sustainable food and beverages to your table.
Agriculture in the EU
EU agricultural products are prized for their quality. They are associated with great variety coming from a multitude of landscapes, and renowned for combining centuries of traditional production methods with the highest standards of safety and environmental sustainability – from farm to fork.

Authenticity
In the EU, traditions in the production of food and beverages have been passed down through generations of farmers and manufacturers. The result is an incredible variety of unique products and tastes. They all reflect the diversity of soils, climates and cultures in Europe.

Safety
Applying the highest possible level of safety is a key component of food and beverages coming from the EU. The EU’s approach is rooted in the concept of traceability, accompanied by strict health and safety rules all along the production and supply chain – from monitoring the quality of crops to food hygiene, disease prevention, secure packaging, and more.

Quality
Recognising quality is made easy with products from the EU. Best farming practice, cutting-edge processing methods and standards, centenary know-how, and quality controls are in place from farm to fork. Moreover, specific labels indicate if a product is organic or has a special link with a specific geographical region.

Sustainability
Greener EU policies promote a food system that is in harmony with the environment. The EU’s Farm to Fork Strategy covers the entire food supply chain, emphasizing animal welfare, food waste reduction, pesticide reduction, efficient energy and water use, carbon farming, and more. Organic farming practices contribute to maintain the sustainability of EU food and beverages.
EU quality schemes and EU organic logo
To ensure the high standards of its food and beverages and promote the traditions and unique characteristics of many European products, the EU has introduced quality schemes: the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
Product names can be granted a 'geographical indication' (GI) if they have a specific link to the place where they are made. The GI recognition enables consumers to trust and distinguish quality products while also helping producers to market their products better.
At the same time, the EU organic logo certifies the production of high-quality products with low environmental impact.
Only products fulfilling specific criteria receive these distinctions.

Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)
Food and drink product names registered as PDO are those that have the strongest links to the place in which they are produced. For a product to be listed as PDO, all aspects of production, preparation and processing must take place in the specified region of origin.

Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)
PGI emphasises the relationship between the specific geographic region and the name of the product, where a particular quality, reputation or other characteristic is essentially attributable to its geographical origin. At least one stage of production must take place in the specific region.

EU organic logo
The EU organic logo can only be used on products that have fulfilled strict conditions on how they must be produced, processed, transported and stored. Products carrying the EU organic logo contain at least 95% of organic ingredients and additionally respect further strict conditions for the remaining 5%.
