The EU has established the safest food production system in the world. With the highest standards of quality and demand on food safety, quality, and traceability for food produced throughout the Union. The pig meat sector constitutes 8.5% of the total EU-27 agricultural output, this means the highest share compared to other meat sectors.
The European pork sector has faced major changes in terms of production system to adapt its production to the EU standards on aspects such as sustainability (environmental, social, and economic), traceability, food security and animal care and management. It is therefore important for European consumers, to know how our production methods contribute to the ambitious global challenges we face in the context of climate change and sustainability, among others.
This programme has only awareness and information objectives, and not the increase in terms of purchase/sale of the product. What we want is to change the negative trend in consumption and stop the decrease, by explaining the consumers the added value given by the European production model. We would like to make sustainability arguments to be motivational drivers for consumption. We seek a long-term commitment to product choice based on the positive social, environmental, and animal welfare aspects of our product compared to that of third countries.
The programme in the 3 countries (Spain, France, Portugal) will target young consumers (20-40), explaining to those reducing their meat consumption, to ask them to choose European pork, because this choice will lead you to a quality meat that will transform your perspective on sustainable food and food production, will show you the environmental respect of European Pork production with the trust of the global leader in food safety and quality, a sector that takes very seriously animal welfare and does everything in its hands to preserve this asset without forgetting about the social and economic sustainability in each country.
