On July 6, 2022, the European Union held "Safety & Sustainability - EU FOOD EXPO", for the food sector and media, at Tokyo Por City Takeshiba.
The event, which aimed to introduce Japanese consumers to safe and sustainable food products through organic and GI-certified agricultural products from the EU, consisted of three parts: "EU Food Exhibition," "Safety & Sustainability Seminar," and "EU Networking Reception.
The "EU Food Exhibition" provided an opportunity for 25 exhibitors to hold direct business meetings with food industry professionals while tasting organic and GI (Geographical Indications) certified foods and beverages from the EU that have already been imported.
At the "Safety & Sustainability Seminar" after a presentation by Ms. Megumi Kobayashi, from the Delegation of the European Union to Japan, on 'EU initiatives for safety, quality, geographical indications, and sustainable food production', the seminar welcomed Mr. Akiteru Imai, Director, General Manager of Supply Chain Division, Director of import, Bio c’ Bon Japon and Mr. Ryosuke Tanaka, Country manager of Innova Market Insights Japan. The two experts led a panel discussion on the potential of organic and GI (Geographical Indications) from the perspective of the Japanese retail industry and global food trends, providing an opportunity for food industry professionals to reaffirm the safety and sustainability of EU food products.
At the "EU Networking Reception," Japanese food sector and media representatives involved in EU food products and European Union embassy representatives enjoyed "Perfect Match!" menus using both EU and Japanese ingredients and EU beverages, and engaged in a lively exchange of ideas and opinions.
The European Union would like to thank all 198 representatives from the Japanese food sector, including importers, buyers and HoReCa members, who took part to discover the safety and sustainability of EU food products and why EU food products are the "Perfect Match!" for customers in Japan.
For those who couldn't join us in person for this seminar, the recorded seminar is available to watch.
