EU products make an impact at Jiyugaoka Food Fair

The recently concluded EU Food Fair at The Garden Jiyugaoka, Shell Garden’s flagship store in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo, has left a flavorful impression on Tokyo residents and food enthusiasts alike. As part of the EU's Perfect Match campaign, this culinary extravaganza showcased the finest food and beverages from 11 EU Member States.

One of the campaign's highlights was a visit by European Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski and members of his cabinet on July 3, 2023. The high-level delegation explored the vibrant array of EU products on offer, and their presence sparked a renewed enthusiasm among the store's staff to promote EU delicacies.

This energy translated into substantial success, with sales of EU products soaring by a remarkable 118.6% compared to the previous week. The Fair attracted over 3,500 visitors, underscoring the growing appreciation of high-quality EU food and drink in Japan.

Shell Garden, the host supermarket, expressed their delight at the event's outcome: “Due to the weak yen, we had expected it to be difficult to increase the number of units sold, but sales increased thanks to the promotion. We intend to continue to promote EU products in the future." Notably, wine and olive oil were among the top-selling EU products.

The EU Food Fair at The Garden Jiyugaoka celebrated Europe’s diverse culinary traditions, leaving a lasting taste of EU excellence on the palates of Japanese consumers. With this resounding success, the Perfect Match campaign continues to showcase the excellence of EU food and drink products and build bridges between cultures through the language of food.
