UK trade representatives discover the hidden gems of Greek and Bulgarian wines during a study trip as part of the 'More than Only Food & Drink' campaign promoting the European Union’s food & beverages across the UK market.
The study trip, which took place between October 21 and 24, 2024, was organised for UK importers, retailers, buyers, and media to unveil lesser-known diverse wines from wine-producing regions in northern Greece and southwestern Bulgaria.
The UK trade representatives visited prestigious PDO and PGI wineries and engaged directly with local winemakers and industry experts. The study trip included exclusive tastings featuring Indigenous and international grape varieties, showcasing the rich cultural heritage influencing these unique wine traditions.
Over four days, the business representatives visited three wineries in Greece and two in Bulgaria, focusing on a diverse range of indigenous grape varieties such as Naoussa PDO (Greece), Goumenissa PDO (Greece), Serres PGI (Greece), Drama PGI (Greece), Struma PDO (Bulgaria), Sandanski PDO (Bulgaria), and Melnik PDO (Bulgaria).
The study trip was organised in close cooperation with local wine associations in both countries.
